Jazz drop in Proffesional Sports Rankings

ESPN Insider Brian Kamentzky's yearly article ranking all 122 Proffesinal Sports teams has the Jazz fall from 15 to 49th.

    "Last Year's Rank: 15
    Title Track: 92
    Ownership: 34
    Coaching: 29
    Players: 96
    Fan Relations: 60
    Affordability: 56
    Stadium Experience: 69
    Bang for the Buck: 23

Salt Lake City has long loved its hoops team, mostly because the hoops team has longed loved SLC. Cherished late owner Larry Miller funneled millions into the community through his charitable organizations. And this year, the Jazz amped up fans and EnergySolutions Arena -- arguably the league's loudest building already -- with new sound and light systems. It was the least they could do for their nearly 14,000 season ticket-holders (the largest season ticket fan base in the NBA) besides maintaining an already lengthened dollar (a game cost that's 11% below league average). But 2008-09 was a bit of a bear nonetheless -- and not of the team's fuzzy mascot variety. An unstable and injury-marred season saw the Jazz regress from 54 wins to 48 and a meek first-round playoff exit, and suddenly fans were wondering if after 21 campaigns, 1,137 wins and 18 postseason trips, coach Jerry Sloan might never deliver an O'Brien. Plus, where once HOFers Stockton and Malone embraced their town, star forward Carlos Boozer seems bent on getting out of Dodge. And the new sheriff, Greg Miller, who has publicly questioned Boozer's defense and leadership qualities, doesn't seem too concerned with keeping him. Is this the end of a beautiful friendship?"

Some statistics in this article are baffling, the Utah Jazz have the largest season ticket holder fan base in the NBA.

I believe that the passing of Larry and Retirement of "Hot Rod" dramatically affect the rankings. I still got my tickets. -S

    Millsap Getting Greedy?

Paul Millsap looking to get around 10 million a year. Why does no one listen to me, I have been saying this for months. We can't do this. "

"Meanwhile, Millsap's representative has set the starting salary he will seek at equal to — if not more than — the sort of money New York Knicks soon-to-be restricted free agent David Lee's camp might attempt to command.

That, suggest both multiple agents and a New York Newsday report, would be a multi-year deal beginning at $10 million per season.

Millsap, rep DeAngelo Simmons suggested, compares statistically quite favorably to the Knicks' big man."

    Here is the entire article.

Bill Simmons Compliments our #20 Pick

6:26: Utah grabs my last favorite player in the draft: Eric Maynor. Why do I love him? He has been handling the rock since he was probably 2. He hasn't played a game since junior high in which the other guys didn't immediately agree, "That guy is the point guard." He's old-school. You could say he has "ownership" of that position. He's not a converted shooting guard or a long-range shooter who brings the ball up or even a short fast guy who plays point because he couldn't play anywhere else. He's a pure point. He owns it. Complete control at all times. That's why I like him. Solid pick. It's all about backups and foreign dudes from here on.

Jimmy, maybe you could do a post on the draft cause A. I'm in Hawaii and B. you were the guyd locking up the ESA last night.

Utah Jazz Draft Party and Draft Thoughts

I will be in Hawaii for this Draft Party, my grad school schedule does not allow me to miss class so we have to leave Thursday morning.

Minus a few players on the Jazz Roster our team is made up of Second Round and no name players that fill a role in the offense. We have two pretty high picks D-Will and Brewer, other than that we have a bunch of players who we have acquired from other teams, second round picks, or were undrafted.

Our First round picks don't generally stick around and here is my theory about this. Most players don't really get a handle on the league till after they have been with two teams. We all know that the Utah Jazz have one of the top organizations in the League (that is why second or third team players like it here, because they have seen the bad side of other organizations). Rookies have nothing to compare their experience to, so they think its greener on the other side. This is just part of the reason, our small loyal market has something to do with it as well.

2008-09 playoff teams past high draft picks.

    L.A. -Gasol #3, Odom#4, and Kobe a steal at #13

    Denver- Melo#3 Kmart#1 Tony Battie#5 Raef LaFrentz #3 Nikoloz Tskitishvili #5

Portland- Egg they are bad with the top pick.

    San Antionio- #1 Tim Duncan

Houston- #1 Yao Ming, Tracy McGrady #9

Dallas- Dirk #9, Kidd #2, Eric Dampier #10

    N.O. Chris Paul #4, Tyson Chandler #2, Baron Davis #3 Hilton Armstrong#12 Cedric Simmons#15

    Utah- Deron Williams #3, RonRon#14.

Those are the highest two draft picks the Jazz have had since they got Karl Malone at #13 in 1985 and Thurl Bailey and #7 in 1983. My point, Deron is under contract for a few more years lets try and get another top 5 pick next to him, it obviously helps.

This is just the West the East's top three teams all have number 1 picks leading their team, LBJ, Dwight Howard and KG.

The "Fez" Dispenser is coming back. Why? not sure.

The Jazz have exercised their option on Fesenko. READ HERE

Maybe they learned their lesson from the Morris Almond incident.

My feeling is that this is for some trade bait or throw in money in case of a trade deadline move, Just my thoughts.

Still little confused by this, especially with the rumors of Shaq going to Cleveland. We will see.

Deron making waves in Europe as well as the states. Read more here

Here is a touching Story about Kosta Koufous and his dad by Ross Siler.

Love both the stories but I'm going crazy waiting for the off-season decisions. We are 22 days away from any official decisions.

Its like Christmas when you are between the ages of 12 and 18. You know Santas real, but you still hope that your parents will pull a miracle out of their hats. You know what you want, and you know what you need. Your parents have probably given you a budget to work from, but you are hoping that all that work that your dad did in the summer will miraculously pull in some extra cash so you can get that new cell phone, scooter or whatever. I just hope it is not one of those Christmas's where your Dad says, "sorry kids I didn't get a bonus this year" and you get a bunch of socks and underwear. Sure you need them, but those kinds of things should be birthday presents. Jazz we need a Miracle.-s

Why I love Bill Simmons and hate the Los Angeles Lakers

SportsNation Bill Simmons: (12:40 PM ET ) To me, there's no debate. LeBron is the best basketball player alive in affects games in every conceivable way. Kobe had a fantastic career but cannot get it done EVERY night anymore and needs a ton of help from refs to get his points. He's a jumpshooter at this stage of his career, and if he's not scoring, he can't really affect games ... LeBron can dominate a game even if he only takes 10 shots.
